Shawn performed in Red Circle playing guitar and keyboards. He was the producer and engineer for both of J.D.'s releases. Along with Brian McGuire they wrote and recorded the music at Number 9 Productions studio both in 2006 and 2009. The song "How You Gonna Be?" from "...So There I Was" won a Native E Music award and Shawn was nominated for Producer of the Year in 2008. The band retired when Backlash did but J.D. sang on two tracks Shawn released on his album "The Sound of One Hand Clapping" in 2015.
Even though Shawn worked on the original mix for both original album releases he was never happy with it and in 2016 he remixed and remastered both albums and released them on Soundcloud.
On July 5, 2023 J.D. passed away from liver, kidney, and lung complications.
