Backlash - A view from the road..

Below is a list of all of the gigs Backlash has played since it's re-grouping in Spring '97. Of Course, there were gigs from 1992-1996, but those shows were never as well documented as these. Some places played in those early years were The Twilighter, Charlie Brown's, Twisted Sisters, a Fireman's  New Years Eve Ball , and The Den (all in North Topeka).

Some of these places no longer exist, some are still here...some you wouldn't dream of having a band like Backlash. Some have little side notes in parentheses to explain points in the life of the band at that time.

All in all, a very strange ride.........

2016

July - December - Shawn remasters both of the 2 final albums, the 2009 album "Backlash" is now called "2009 (Remixed + Remastered)" to avoid getting lost in the millions of bands called Backlash in the download world, and "Circling The Drain (Remixed+Remastered)", both scheduled for release in 2017. Shawn also hinted at a 3rd album to be released but at the end of 2016 he has mentioned nothing more.

2017

On January 27, 2017 Shawn released remixed and remastered albums "2009 (Remixed + Remastered)" and "Circling the Drain (Remixed + Remastered)" as well as third new album called "Loud and Proud",  a compilation of the the first three Backlash releases from the albums "Dressed For Success" (2003), "No Quarter No Mercy" (2004), and "Tattooed Nation" (2006). The songs on the album included selected remastered tracks and some live tracks that illustrate what the band sounded like in that time period; loud, fast, and raw. The remixed and remastered tracks from "No Quarter No Mercy" have the original lead solos replaced by Brian McGuire's guitar leads, which was made possible by Shawn culling through every guitar solo track Brian recorded and catogorized them by key, and taking snips and bits to create new leads for those songs. A few months before Brian died he wanted to re-do and re-release the "No Quarter No Mercy" album with his new solos on the songs. With new solos being manipulated into the tracks, Shawn went ahead and remixed and remastered each song for the release but did not want to re-release the entire album so choice tracks were selected. The entire project was completed around Christmas 2006 and on January 4, 2017 Shawn and his wife Julie trekked around Kansas to deliver personal copies and packages of the music and videos to former band mates before the official release and filmed the trip and the band members they met up with, which is the footage in the video release for "The Road". Former band mates featured in the video are bassist Jason Brown, bassist Danny Tallent, and drummer Ron Prothe.
The following week the original album releases of "2009" and "Circling the Drain", including the cd copies that were available, were pulled off of the market and are no longer available. If you should happen to find or have one, you'll hear why everything was remixed and remastered. Hopefully, they'll be a rare gem someday..

All three albums are available for download anywhere you buy digital music, they are all priced at $9.99.

Shawn also released tracks on Soundcloud for free, which include three live full performances captured from soundboard audio, and "Freebies", a collection of one-off songs and lost gems. A You Tube video channel featuring live performances became alive online, footage that includes the band performing with guitarist Geoff Zyung 3 days after they opened for Alice Cooper and Cheap Trick, and footage from performances that were featured on previous dvd releases.

August 2017 - Shawn found the missing songs that weren't remixed and remastered for the 2014 re-release of "Tattooed Nation", thier third album from 2006. He remixed and remastered the entire album due to this find and released them on Soundcloud as "Tattooed Nation - Remixed and Remastered".

September 2017 - Backlash is officially eligible to be inducted into the Kansas Music Hall Of Fame. Groups and musicians are eligible after 25 years of formation and must have "a significant impact in the Kansas music scene".
Do 5 albums, 18 years worth of performances, and performing "The Wall" count for something? We'll see.....
